Stories, leadership, and growth
from our dojang in Puyallup
Success is not luck
Dear students and families,
This year, we didn’t just train —
we showed up, worked hard, and grew stronger together.
Success isn’t luck.
It’s built by habits, discipline, and daily effort — and you’re building it step by step.
As we start a new year, remember:
Believe bigger. Keep moving forward.
Share your story.
Your progress can inspire someone else to take their first step toward confidence and health.
The best gift we give our kids isn’t “stuff” —
it’s strength, character, and the belief that they can become anything.
Let’s make this next year our best one yet.
Together.
— Master Shin

Listen to What Mama Said — Story #2: CHOICE
CHOICE — words are not skill, they are decisions.
Anyone can speak.
But the words we choose determine whether our voice becomes
a knife that hurts,
or a gift that heals.
Two children may face the same situation —
one shouts in frustration,
another struggles but tries to speak calmly.
The difference is not ability,
but Choice.
And the power to guide that choice comes from education.
A child is still learning how to use words.
Sometimes they cry, sometimes they shout,
their heart is full, but expression is young.
This is why early language habits matter deeply.
Because word choice becomes attitude,
attitude becomes character,
and character becomes direction for life.
We honor and value the words parents use at home —
because the home is the first school,
and parents are the first teachers.
We only hope to be the second teacher,
supporting your child as they learn to choose
kindness over anger,
understanding over reaction,
and expression over explosion.
Words are choices.
And choosing an educational partner is also a Choice.
If that choice allows us to walk beside your family
and shape your child’s voice and future together —
there is no greater honor.

Egg Challenge — “Let It Be: Protect Life, Protect the Future”
Entry Fee: $5
Prize: Taekwondo Uniform
A Lesson in Life, Responsibility, and Future Growth
In today’s world, children grow fast — sometimes too fast. They face challenges, distractions, emotions, and choices daily. As instructors, parents, and community members, we don’t just want them to be strong in body.
We want them to be strong in mind, steady in heart, and responsible in life.
That is the reason behind our new event:
🥋 The Taekwondo Egg Challenge – Let It Be
Each student receives a fertilized egg — a fragile beginning, a future life waiting to grow into something more. It is small, defenseless, breakable… just like all of us once were. The task is simple but powerful:
Protect the egg. Care for it. Let it live.
If the egg remains safe through the challenge, students earn stamps. If the egg hatches, they receive bonus recognition. The winner receives a Taekwondo uniform — but more importantly, every participant gains something deeper.
🌱 The Meaning Behind “Let It Be”
This project reminds students that life is full of potential — but only if we protect it.
An egg is not just an egg. It is a possible chicken, a future creature, a life waiting for care.
This challenge teaches students to:
- Hold life gently
- Act with patience
- Build responsibility
- Respect what is fragile
- Understand how much others protect them
Just as the egg depends on their care, our children depend on guidance to grow into leaders, good friends, and kind members of their community.
Life has potential. Protect it. Let it Be.
🐣 줄탁동시 (Jool–Tak–Dong–Si)
(줄 = Jool / 탁 = Tak / 동 = Dong / 시 = Si)
We also teach one of the most beautiful lessons in Korean philosophy:
A chick can only hatch when two things happen at the same time:
- 줄 (Jool) — The chick pecks from inside
- 탁 (Tak) — The parent taps from outside
Growth succeeds only when inside effort and outside support meet together.
Students reflect on:
- Am I giving effort from the inside?
- Who helps me from the outside?
- Which actions show my true character?
This challenge helps children understand teamwork, gratitude, and personal strength — not through lecture, but through experience.
🏆 How the Challenge Works
| Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
| Object | Fertilized egg (future life) |
| Mission | Protect, carry, and care for it daily |
| Goal | Keep it safe — or hatch it |
| Reward | Stamps, recognition, and winner receives uniform |
Students must bring their egg each day, show how they protected it, and receive a stamp for safe condition. Cracked eggs still have value — we learn from challenge, not just success.
Because real growth happens when we try, fail, learn, and try again.
❤️ Why This Matters
This is more than just an activity —
It is training for life.
Through the Egg Challenge, students learn:
✓ Responsibility
✓ Patience
✓ Gratitude
✓ Gentle behavior
✓ Self-awareness
✓ 줄탁동시 (Jool–Tak–Dong–Si)
Some lessons can’t be taught in words.
They must be lived.
And this event gives students the chance to hold life in their hands, just as life once held them.
📢 Follow Our Journey
We invite families, neighbors, and community members to support and watch this project unfold.
Students will be sharing updates — and the story of growth will belong to all of us.
Life has potential.
Protect it.
Let it Be.

What Really Makes Life Rich? A Thanksgiving Message from Master Shin’s Taekwondo
What really makes life rich?
Money? Knowledge? Being famous? Power?
Even if we gain all of those, our heart still asks, “Is that all?”
They are useful and sometimes necessary—but they are not enough.
I’ve learned a different answer from something simple and old:
“What Mama Said.”
Be happy.
Appreciate.
Be honest.
Respect others.
Share with others.
Stand tall and keep good posture.
Speak with kindness.
These are small sentences, but they create a big life.
We feel truly rich when we can be happy and peaceful around family—
when we sit together, eat together, laugh together,
and feel that we belong and are loved.
This is the Season of Appreciation—
a time to slow down, remember what we have,
and say “thank you” with our words and our actions.
From my heart, I hope you have the happiest Thanksgiving
with your family at home.
And here at Master Shin’s Taekwondo,
I wish to build a “family outside your home” —
a place where children grow in character,
parents feel supported,
and we cheer for each other’s progress, on and off the mat.
Happy Thanksgiving,
from our dojang family to yours. 🧡

Why Families Love Master Shin’s Taekwondo — Natassia’s Review
Parents see things instructors cannot always see — and their perspective is the most honest reflection of what truly happens in class.
I’m grateful when families share their experiences, and I’m honored to post Natassia’s review from her heart.
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ 5 Stars
“Master Shin is patient and kind with my 5-year-old and has worked with him on technique with grace as well as humor. I recommend Master Shin’s Taekwondo for anyone! We love coming to class!!”
— Natassia N, Google Review
Every young student walks into the dojang with their own personality, challenges, and strengths.
My goal is always to meet them where they are — especially our youngest students — and guide them with patience, clear direction, and a sense of joy in learning.
Teaching with humor, kindness, and strong values creates the foundation for real growth. I’m thankful for families like Natassia’s who trust us with their children’s journey.
